We are seeking an experienced RN executive leader for a permanent Executive Director of Emergency Services opportunity with a major healthcare system in Des Moines, Iowa.

This is a high-level leadership position responsible for Emergency Services and Nursing Operations across multiple hospital campuses. The Executive Director will provide strategic and operational leadership while partnering closely with nursing leaders, physicians, and other service lines to advance patient care, quality, safety, employee engagement, and organizational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership and oversight for Emergency Services and Nursing Operations
Lead and support department leaders across multiple hospital campuses
Oversee staffing strategy, budgeting, financial resources, and operational performance
Develop and implement initiatives to improve patient care, safety, quality, and patient experience
Evaluate outcomes and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement
Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and other service lines to improve patient flow and coordination of care
Mentor and develop current and emerging leaders and support succession planning
Help maintain standards associated with specialty designations and accreditation programs
Promote consistency and best practices across Emergency Services while supporting the unique needs of each campus
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and patient-focused leadership culture

Required Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa or qualifying Compact RN license
Master’s degree required – MSN or another healthcare- or business-related master’s degree
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible healthcare management experience in a hospital, outpatient, or clinical environment
Demonstrated success leading teams, developing leaders, and improving clinical or operational outcomes
Strong communication, organizational, and change-management skills

Preferred

Professional certification in a specialty relevant to the position
Emergency Services/ED leadership experience
Experience overseeing complex or multi-site clinical operations
