Director of Anesthesia Opportunity - 425-Bed Regional Medical Center, East Texas

Lead a High-Performing Anesthesia Department in a Growing East Texas Community

A prominent 425-bed regional referral center and Level II Trauma Center in East Texas is seeking an experienced, board-certified Anesthesiologist to serve as Director of Anesthesia. This leadership role offers the opportunity to guide a well-established, collegial team while maintaining an excellent work-life balance in a supportive, high-retention environment (95% physician retention system-wide).

Practice & Leadership Highlights:

  • Current team: 9 full-time Anesthesiologists and 27 CRNAs providing exceptional support

  • Coverage responsibilities

    • Main OR: 14 rooms with approximately 7,000 cases annually

    • Cath Lab: 2 spots covered daily (total 5 rooms across the main hospital and ASC)

    • Freestanding ASC: 7-8 rooms

  • Call: Favorable 1:10 weeknight and 1:5 weekend (always 2 providers staffed); call is from home; Night shift on weekly rotation

  • Schedule: D1 model (full week on, post-call week off) - guaranteed week off after call week; approximately 50-hour work week average (including administrative duties)

  • Case mix (general anesthesiology focus with leadership oversight):

    • Always/High volume: Major vascular, Orthopedics, Regional anesthesia

    • Sometimes/Variable: Cardiac (team will proctor if needed), Thoracic, Pediatrics, Neuro, Trauma, Outpatient surgery, Chronic pain (occasional)

    • Rarely/Never: Critical care (rare), Obstetrics (handled by CRNAs), Acute pain, Office-based, Preop screening clinic (Chief/Director may oversee; regular Anesthesiologists do not routinely cover)

  • Medically directed model with no resident supervision; emphasis on quality, efficiency, and team development

As Director of Anesthesia, you will:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the anesthesia service line

  • Oversee clinical quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives

  • Collaborate with hospital administration, surgical services, and other departments

  • Mentor and support the physician and CRNA team

  • Participate in case coverage while leading departmental growth and innovation
