Description
We have an immediate opening on a 32-bed inpatient surgical unit for an experienced Med Surg RN with a strong surgical background. This is a fast-paced unit caring for complex post-surgical patients and is not for the faint of heart — if you thrive in a high-acuity environment, this is your assignment.
Assignment Details
Shift: Rotating, days ornights, 12-hour shifts
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Float: Yes, traveler should expect to float
The Unit
This is a dedicated surgical unit — Med Surg experience alone is not enough. You must have direct experience caring for patients following vascular, thoracic, colorectal, and general surgery procedures.
Common diagnoses and patient types: ARDS, esophagectomies, Whipple procedures, and sepsis. This unit manages complex, high-acuity post-surgical patients and requires strong clinical judgment and confidence working independently.
Staffing ratios:
RN to patient: 4:1 days / 5:1 nights
LNA support: 1:7-11 (unit shares with PCU)
Required Skills and Experience
To be considered, candidates must have hands-on experience with all of the following:
Chest tube management
Drip management including Diltiazem, heparin, Lasix, insulin, and amiodarone
Lines, tubes, and drains for post-surgical patients
Tracheostomies and laryngectomies
Telemetry
Complex wound care
Central line care, maintenance, and blood draws
Licensing and Certifications
Active RN license required
